Our Top Pick for Maun Accommodation
If you are in a hurry, our Number one pick for the best accommodation is Maun Studios.
It was so impressive we stayed at this guest house in Maun twice. With relaxing tropical gardens, super friendly hosts and a delicious English breakfast, this gorgeous place on the banks of the Thamalakane River was one place in Maun we didn’t want to leave.
Whilst road-tripping in Botswana, we passed through Maun on several occasions. A few were intentional and part of our Botswana itinerary, and others were because we needed to fix our 4×4 bush camper, Bucky and make yet another trip to a Maun mechanic!
Along with all of the places we stayed in Maun, we’ve also included other great options of where to stay in Maun Botswana, which we’ve broken into different categories to make it easier for you to choose the best places to suit you according to your budget and needs.

About Maun – The Gateway to the Okavango Delta
Maun is a small town in the northern part of Botswana, known as the Gateway to the Okavango Delta. As such, it has become a popular tourist destination and has several holiday accommodation options.
The Okavango Delta is one of the most stunning and unique natural wonders of the world and is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, lions, and leopards.
We used Maun as a base before heading south to explore Nxai Pan National Park, where we witnessed one of Africa’s largest annual zebra migrations. And then passed through again before heading north, continuing our overlanding trip into the heart of the Okavango and camping in the Moremi Game Reserve.
There are a number of shops, restaurants and amenities for visitors, and it’s a great place to stock up before heading out into the game reserves. A well-stocked Spar and Tops are great for grocery shopping, and we made good use of the Toyota Garage (for our Hilux).
You can even get your 4×4 tank filled with purified water at Aquarite in Maun.
Overall, Maun is the perfect destination to stop over whilst overlanding and camping through Botswana.
So, without further ado … let’s dive into the best places to stay in Maun.
Best Accommodation in Maun
Within each of these accommodation options, we’ve included the Booking.com review rating and a price indication relative to all the places mentioned in this list ranging from $ to $$$$.
1. Maun Studios (Guesthouse/ B&B)
The best guesthouse and B&B in Maun (we’ve stayed here)
Booking.com Reviewers Rating: 9.8 / Price $$$
We loved the family-owned Maun Studios so much that we stayed there on two separate occasions and recommended it to other travellers we met while travelling in Botswana.
It is hardly surprising that Maun Studios is one of the most highly rated places to stay in Maun, with exceptional reviews and ratings.
The studios are beautifully decorated with well-equipped kitchens and comfy beds. Our studio looked out onto the idyllic gardens, with a lounger ideally placed on the deck for enjoying the birdlife and serene ambience.
The beautifully presented breakfast is served in the thatched boma in the garden, with views down to the river.
If you are in luck, as part of your breakfast, you will be served the local magwinya. Maun Studios supports local female entrepreneurs, and these tasty cakes (think the marriage of doughnuts and bread) are bought fresh each morning and served warm to your breakfast table.
I’m not a big fan of doughnuts, but these were heaven. You can eat them on their own or with butter and honey. If you are vegan, the Studios have added Sugarbeans, another local entrepreneurship project, to the breakfast menu.
The owners go out of their way to ensure that your stay is the best it can be, and they went above and beyond by enabling us to check in early at 9 a.m.
The only downside?
It’s so good that it might be booked out and not available for your dates. If you like the look of this gorgeous place, we recommend booking earlier rather than later.
Facilities include:
- English Breakfast

We stopped at Sitatunga on our way through Maun as we headed south for our camping adventure in the Kgalgadi Transfrontier Park.
The camp is about 12 kilometres south of Maun centre and, therefore, away from the hustle and bustle. We were booked in to stay in one of the chalets, which was small with two single beds and had an ensuite outdoor shower and toilet.
There is a restaurant on-site and a swimming pool. There is also a plunge pool near the chalets, but it was undergoing maintenance while we were there before the peak season began.
For those on a budget, this is a great accommodation option in Maun.

We stayed here too – and yes, we were in and out of Maun a lot!
The cute-looking chalets are set in a lovely garden, and all have air conditioning, a fridge and tea and coffee facilities.
